JMC starts Plantation Drive | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 4: During the Monsoon season, Jammu Municipal Corporation has started a plantation drive in Jammu City, an initiative to promote environmental resources. The plantation drive was started in Gandhi Nagar W.No. 20 & 21 which was inaugurated by the Mayor, JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta in presence of Commissioner, JMC Rahul Yadav (IAS), Asstt. Commissioner (Rev.), JMC, Manisha (KAS), Councillors, Rahul Kumar & Bhanu Mahajan and Sparkle Group. Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation appeals to all the citizens of Jammu City to come forward and actively participate in the Plantation drive to make the drive a great success. He said that the plants are the lifeline of people as they offer desired resistance to pollution which has crossed the admissible limits especially in urban sectors. Besides, these act as oxygen (fresh air)thus rejuvenating our cities by providing much needed respite from global warming, rain deficit and poor air quality. While stressing on protecting nature, he appealed to the general public to come forward & plant at least five trees to make the environment green & pollution free. Claiming that trees are also the natural habitat of birds & several other creatures like honey bees etc and said that it is the necessity of present time to have plenty of trees in the vicinity to sustain life. The Commissioner, JMC stated that the Plantation drive will be conducted w.e.f. 04/07/2022 to 22/07/2022 at different locations within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation. The basic idea of plantation drive is to restore and noticeably increases green cover in the city over next few years besides involving of the citizens of Jammu in this initiative of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. During the drive large number of saplings of different categories including ornamental, herbal etc will be planted in different parks as well as in vacant area of the city. |
