Early Times Report JAMMU, July 8: NSS GGM Science College under the patronage of worthy Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr Deepali Mahajan organized an awareness workshop to commemorate World Population Day 11th July to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues. This year theme is "A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all - Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all". NSS volunteers on virtual platform spoke on several issues caused due to overpopulation. The increasing population also sheds light on health problems faced by women during pregnancy and childbirth, making the need for family planning, gender equality, and maternal health more important than ever. When there is a state of balance between the population and the available resources, it is known as the optimum population. This balance gets disturbed when the number of people increases or decreases in comparison to the availability of resources. Overpopulation creates the problems like unemployment, shortage of food, low per capita income, problem of capital formation, high pressure, social problems, economic insecurity, social insecurity, increases pressure on land and environment degradation. The quantity, quality, structure, distribution, and movement of a population can help or hinder the rate of economic development |
