Srinagar marooned in rainfall | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 23: A one hour rains inundated the major commercial centres of Srinagar on Saturday, witnesses said. All major roads and bylanes leading to Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of Srinagar city, and other major markets were inundated by the early morning rain. In the city, the pedestrians and shopkeepers faced difficulties walking on the waterlogged roads. The inundation of roads and lanes exposed the claims of the administration, which has been boasting about the infrastructure upgrade in Srinagar under the Smart City project. The locals said the Srinagar civic bodies get exposed every time it rains. “Government every now and then claims to have spent a lot of money on improving the drainage in Srinagar, but it all gets exposed when it rains even for a brief time,” said a local resident Shahid Ahmed. The administration pressed into service mobile dewatering pumps on Saturday. Apart from Srinagar, rains lashed many parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The Meteorological department has forecast more light to moderate showers and thunderstorms in next 24 hours. |
