Jobs Not For Sale | | | Recently, J&K Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta made it amply clear that government jobs in the Union Territory are not for sale and the only criterion for entering into the government service is merit. Dr Mehta stated that people should have faith that merit will be the only basis for selection in government jobs and no wrongdoings will be accepted. Earlier this month J&K government cancelled the selection list of sub inspectors in J&K Police and a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation was recommended. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had written on twitter that the JKP sub-inspector recruitment has been cancelled and culprits will be brought to justice soon. The government’s decision to cancel the recruitment process came soon after the aspirants alleged that discrepancies had taken place. The probe was conducted and on the recommendations of the enquiry committee the list was quashed. During the past two years more than 20,000 aspirants have been provided employment in the government sector and the recruitment processes have been carried out in a very transparent manner. The time has changed recommendations and influence doesn’t work anymore. There is no doubt about the fact that since the day Centre has directly started governing J&K the situation has changed and the common man has become the priority. The favoritism has ended and whoever wants a job has to follow the procedure, the backdoor system has been closed. After J&K’s transition into a Union Territory the government has laid emphasis on creating employment avenues through various means. Everyone is aware of the fact that the government cannot provide jobs to all the people and generating self employment holds the key. After August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate Article 370 and divided it into two union territories—the government has launched multiple schemes for youth to earn their livelihood by becoming entrepreneurs. Posts are also being advertised and the recruitment agencies have been directed to expedite the process. Things are moving at a fast pace but there are few people who have still not understood that J&K has turned into a Union Territory and backdoor appointments have been banned. |
