Early Times Report
POONCH, Aug 1: Provincial President Youth National Conference and former MLA, Ajaz Jan has appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to constitute teams to assess the damages to people in Haveli Poonch constituency affected by the recent incessant rains. He also demanded interim relief to the affected people till the damages are finally worked out.
The demand was made by Jan while addressing media persons after concluding his three days tour of Haveli Poonch constituency conducted by him to take stock of damages due to flash floods and incessant rains in the region.
The senior NC leader informed that extensive damage has been caused across the Haveli Poonch constituency. He said that he visited five blocks of the constituency namely Poonch, Nangali Sai Baba, Sathra, Mandi and Loran Block and found that several were damaged with walls having got washed away due to rain water. He added that eighty percent of the roads in this constituency stand badly damaged thus having made the life of people especially the poor living in these areas quite miserable.
Jan also expressed serious concern over damages caused by torrential rains in Surankote. He appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to immediately constitute teams as per past practice to assess the losses caused by the heavy rainfall in the recent days and provide adequate compensation to the affected families. He demanded that till the assessment and working out of compensation the Administration must provide interim relief to the affected people. Stating that due to loss of connectivity road link at various places the people are unable to get even the essentials, he requested the Lt Governor to restore all the damaged roads on top priority and direct the concerned authorities to carry out the restoration works on a war footing.
The National Conference leader castigated the Govt for its failure to translate its development slogans on ground. He said that after 2014 development works across the region have come to a grinding halt. He said that it is really unfortunate that even the pilot works initiated during his tenure as MLA stand halted by the Administration for the reason best known to those at the helm of affairs in governance. Taking serious note of this issue he urged the Administration led by LG Manoj Sinha to initiate requisite measures to start all the halted projects in Haveli Poonch constituency.
Meanwhile, during Ajaz Jan's tour to various places, several youth joined the National Conference under his leadership. Welcoming them into the party fold, the former MLA asked them to remain available among the people in their areas to serve them especially by addressing their pressing issues. He said that NC is the only secular party in letter and spirit in J&K and it will come back to power whenever the Assembly elections are held.
