Mehbooba for all-party meeting on voting right | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 18: A day after the Chief Electoral Officer announced that residents of the country can vote in Jammu and Kashmir elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday suggested an all-party meeting to discuss the future strategy. She spoke to National Conference president and veteran politician Farooq Abdullah. "I talked to Farooq sahib, being the senior most politician, and requested him to call an all-party meeting including those who disagree with us so that we can chalk out a future course of action," Mufti told the media. “We will chalk out all strategies accordingly as it is a matter of our existence.” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Hirdesh Kumar on Wednesday said that every citizen of the country staying ordinarily in the state can register as a voter here and vote in the next assembly elections following the abrogation of Article 370. She said allowing the non-locals to vote was the last nail in the coffin of electoral democracy in Kashmir. The PDP President alleged that the BJP wanted to add 25 lakh voters into Jammu and Kashmir to install a fascist to head the region. “The BJP is employing the policy of Nazi Germany and Israel. But they must learn lesson from history and such models are never a success." She asserted that BJP wanted to replace the Indian flag with a saffron flag. "The BJP wants to make this country a 'BJP Rashtra', not a 'Hindu Rashtra'." She said the decisions being taken by the Union government would certainly radicalize youths in Kashmir. |
