Religious Tourism Circuit
9/1/2022 11:30:26 PM

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently announced that efforts are on to conserve and revitalize spiritual cultural heritage and to bring prominent religious places like Purmandal- Utterbehni, Mansar-Surinsar and Shiv Khori on the religious tourism circuit of the country.
To develop a religious tourism circuit has been a long pending demand of the people of Jammu region. The J&K Lieutenant Governor talking about it and assuring the people that things are moving towards developing a religious tourism circuit is good news for the people of Jammu as it will lead to more and more tourists visiting the region. At present 8 to 5 lakh people visit Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine every month. If the other religious places are developed the footfall in Jammu would increase manifolds and it would keep the region abuzz. After August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories, the government has taken slew of measures to develop the tourism spots in Jammu and efforts are being put to explore the unexplored areas.
Kashmir centric leaders who ruled J&K in the past didn’t put many efforts to develop Jammu as a tourism destination as they remained obsessed with the Valley. No one in the past ever thought about developing Jammu as a pilgrim tourism destination. The present dispensation seems to have made a concrete plan to explore the unexplored tourism potential of the Jammu region and having a pilgrim circuit is a good idea. This will allow the devotees to visit the religious places that are of a great significance. People are hoping that the work on developing this circuit will be expedited as it can prove to be a big boon for the tourism industry in Jammu region and will create employment for the natives of Jammu region.
According to the officials as many as 18 projects for conservation of places with spiritual cultural importance have already started in Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, Udhampur. The heritage sites are being restored after seven decades. These sites are a symbol of Dogra heritage and one hopes that the present government led by LG Manoj Sinha will ensure that Dogra heritage is preserved and new tourist destinations are developed to make Jammu a vibrant place vis-à-vis tourism.
