KVK, promotes organic Turmeric, ginger cultivation

Reasi, Sept 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and educating the farmers on organic cultivation of turmeric and ginger especially in the monkeys affected areas of Reasi distt. of J&K so that the income and employment among the farmers of these areas can be enhanced. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi is technically guiding and encouraging the farmers for the commercial cultivation of organic turmeric and ginger. According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal farmers of some areas of the district face serious threat because of monkeys menace as they damage their major crops resulting in the poor productivity and thus reduce their net farm income. According to him, turmeric and ginger cultivation have immense potential in the area and these crops are not damaged by the monkeys and wild animals. He narrated that distt. Reasi has huge potential in organic turmeric and ginger production and farmers should grow organic turmeric and ginger of commercial level so that their income and employment can be increased. He expressed that KVK, Reasi is guiding the farmers on the preparation of organic formulations such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, cow urine etc. required for organic farming and natural farming. He informed that by the application of organic formulations in the soil, organic matter in the soil can be increased and cost of cultivation can be minimized. According to him organic turmeric and ginger are helpful to improve the health status of human beings by improving the immunity of the body and have multiple uses. He added that value addition in organic turmeric and ginger can add income of the farmers. By observing the successful results of some successful organic farmers, many new farmers are showing keen interest towards organic turmeric and ginger cultivation.
