AAP balloon punctured in J&K | | | Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party, which had arrived with a bang on the political arena in Jammu and Kashmir a few months ago seems to be turning into a non-entity. After AAP’s arrival in J&K many senior politicians had joined the party with a hope that it would emerge as an alternative and would provide them with a platform to fight for the cause of the people. However, it appears that the AAP’s central leadership is least interested in making inroads in J&K. There are reports that the senior leaders who had joined AAP in Jammu are mulling to say goodbye to the party due to the indifferent attitude of the leadership. Former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad quitting the Congress Party and announcing to launch his own party in J&K has added yet another dimension to the politics in the Union Territory. Azad’s emergence on the scene is a setback for AAP as he enjoys strong connections with the people and the leaders in the Himalayan region. Till date he has not announced the name of his party but many leaders from the Congress have tendered their resignations from the party and have announced their decision to join Azad’s party. It appears that the AAP leadership has realized that it has no future in Jammu and Kashmir and it’s better to stay away from the Union Territory. At present AAP is grappling with a number of issues in New Delhi, recently one of the AAP MLA was arrested on graft charges. Delhi’s Excise scam and law and order situation in Punjab has badly dented the image of the party. Its leadership is caught in too many problems and it looks evident that the party has wound up its “Mission Jammu and Kashmir.” The initial enthusiasm in the favour of the party in J&K has disappeared as the real face of the leadership stands exposed. The ones who joined AAP in a rush have started realizing that they have committed a mistake and now, they are somehow trying to drag their feet. It appears that in the coming days there is every possibility about prominent leaders quitting AAP and joining others. For the time being the future of AAP in J&K looks bleak. |
