Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: The students of MIER College of Education attended the prestigious 12th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad at MIT World Peace University Kothrud, Pune, Maharashtra, from 15th to 17th September' 22. Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament) the brainchild of Prof. Rahul V. Karad was initiated in 2011 with the core objective to enhance the roles and relevance of youth in democratic institutions. Nearly 10,000 politically and socially active students and young leaders from 450 universities and 28 states and 8 union territories of India participated in the event. Six students from the UG and PG Departments of the college, Naman Mansotra, Kanureet Kour, Sheetal Thapa, Neha Sharma, Sona Devi and Revika Jamwal accompanied with Suman Devi, Assistant Professor, MIER College of Education attended the event. The inaugural session of the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad opened with the triumph of the democracy drums. The event saw top political leaders and eminent personalities of the country sharing their enriching experiences and thoughts with the youth of our country, prominent among them were Roopa Ganguly, acclaimed actress, Former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Vikram Sampath, noted Historian, Author, Columnist, and Financial Analyst, Rahul Narwekar, Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, D. R. Karthikeyan, IPS (Retd.), Former Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Dr. Kailasavadivoo Sivan, Former Chairman, Indian Space Research, Organisation (ISRO), Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Hon'ble Minister of State for Finance, Govt. of India. The event provided a platform for the students to interact with dignitaries from various political pursuits and a chance to have a deep insight into the essence of political and democratic system in India. The topics that were covered in a three day event included, Dynasty - the untold truth of every political party, Democracy and Corporatocracy - where does the power lie Less Bharat, more west - changing trends of Bharatiya cinema, Bharatiya media - ruled by law or ruled by noise, Uniform civil code - an idea whose time has come and Freedom of Speech- where to draw the line? After every session a resolution was passed through online voting. A youth to youth connect session was also conducted which consisted of a group discussion on water conservation and its various interventions. Principal, Dr. Adit Gupta, congratulated the students for successfully attending the Sansad and making the presence of the college felt at national level. The students also appreciated the management for giving them an opportunity of gaining diverse meaningful experiences. They felt grateful to have witnessed such a humungous event, at the national level. |
