J&K felicitated for excelling in achieving UN SDG in last couple of years

New Delhi, Sept 28: The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has been felicitated for making remarkable contributions towards achieving 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals during last couple of years and Secretary to Government, Mining Department Amit Sharma was invited to attend felicitation for J&K Union Territory in it. Alongside, Amit also participated in a power-packed Panel Discussion alongwith Secretaries of States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra on achieving Carbon Neutrality and sharing perspectives towards Eco sensitivities in respective states/ UTs for saving planet earth.
Secretary Mining Amit Sharma received the honours on behalf of J&K while Goa felicitation was received by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh were also felicitated in this Ceremony for it. Amit happened to share important achievements of the UT of J&K towards the important goal of Carbon Neutrality wherein Panchayat Palli has been fully powered with Solar Energy with a 500 KW Solar Plant and various works are being carried out in Palli panchayat only through power supplied by this solar plant. He mentioned that this unique initiative was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of April this year only in J&K as a follow-up of the UN Climate Change Glasgow Conference.
During this ceremony, Secretary Mining Amit Sharma also talked about public awareness and mass campaigns reaching upto grass root level in J&K for multiple sectors like Health, Jal Shakti, Urban Development through Swacch Bharat Mission and he further disclosed that there has been significant improvement in improving J&K ranking in UN Sustainable Development Goals over the last couple of years. He also mentioned that recently, J&K Government approved Rooftop Solar Scheme for residential households towards reducing over 5 million tonnes of Carbon emission which shows the resolve of UT to contribute substantially towards UN Sustainable Development Goals well within the target year 2030.
The felicitation ceremony followed by Panel Discussions were led by Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and it was inspired by NITI Aayog and organised by the Times Group vertical Economic Times who have happened to acknowledge the positive contribution of J&K towards achieving success in achieving UN SDG and improving its ranking by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years.
