SKUAST-Jammu organizes standards Writing Competition

JAMMU, Oct 10: Standards Writing Competition organised by Standards Club of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) for Students on 10 October 2022 in collaboration with BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office.
The programme started with interactive session of students with Sh. Tilak Raj, Head JKBO during which he informed the students about different types of standards published by BIS such as products, methods of tests, Code of practices, Service Standards etc. With some common examples of day-to-day life, he explained importance of standards to the students. Later, Smt. Nisha Bura, Joint Director gave presentation on structure of an Indian Standard covering all important classes such a Foreword, Scope, References, Raw Materials requirements, finished product requirements, methods of sampling and testing, packaging & marking requirements etc.
Later the students were given the subject of ‘Packaged Drinking Water’ for writing Standard. The students enthusiastically participated in the competition. The results will be announced later by University Authority on evaluation of standards written by them. This activity helped students in understanding and appreciating the role standards play in building a Quality Eco-system in the country. The Competition was coordinated by Dr. Sushmita M. Dadhich, Mentor of Standards Club from SKUAST, Jammu.
