SKUAST award from ICAR for beekeeping | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 12: The All India Coordinated Research Project (Honeybee and Pollinators) Centre of Sher e Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology of Jammu has been conferred the Best Presenting Centre Award by ICAR-New Delhi for the year 2021-22. The awards was announced by Project Coordinator, Dr. Balraj Singh. This Centre was chosen among 25 centers of ICAR - All India Coordinated Honeybee and Pollinators Project and the award was presented at the recently held Annual Group Meeting ICAR- AICRP Scheme at SKUAST Jammu. The AICRP Centre was sanctioned as voluntary center by ICAR in 2008-09 and was subsequently upgraded as permanent centre in 2015-16. Since then, the centre has contributed a lot in the field of beekeeping. The centre has developed and demonstrated various technologies on various aspects of scientific beekeeping and also developing information and tools for suggesting healthy nectar corridors and migratory pathways for maintaining healthy population of bees. The Quality control laboratory has been sanctioned under National Bee Board Project for facilitating testing of honey and other bee products. Training on scientific beekeeping is regularly organized at the centre under self-financial scheme, sponsored by Government/NGOs etc. The centre has also released publications in vernacular languages for the benefit of farmers in Jammu and Kashmir and developed low cost wasp traps and artificial diets for the scientific management of beekeeping. Vice chancellor Dr. J.P. Sharma congratulated Dr. R.K. Gupta Head Entomology, Dr. Devinder Sharma, PI AICRP Honeybee and Pollinators and his team for bringing laurels to the University. He lauded the Apiculture scientists for their excellent research contributions in the field of beekeeping. |
