KVK, organises Jan Abhiyan Programme | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized Jan Abhiyan Programme under Back to Village Programme(B2V4) here today at Dhanwa village of Pouni block in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension. Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants and gave an overview of the programme. While addressing the farmers, he elaborated the concept of rainfed agriculture and natural farming and urged the participants to adopt natural farming so as to produce the safe and healthy food. He also highlighted the four pillars of natural farming. He added that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He further said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can enhance their income with minimum or no input cost. He guided the farmers for the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit and also guiding them the practices of mulching and Acchadana required for the natural farming. He narrated that for a healthy society, quality food is required and natural farming can play a crucial role for the production of quality and safe food. He informed that natural farming is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He also guided the farmers on the scientific cultivation of lemongrass, turmeric, ginger, marigold and gladiolus especially in the monkeys affected areas. He said that these crops are not damaged by the monkeys and farmers should grow these crops of commercial level so that their farm income can be enhanced. He also guided farmers on the varieties of different crops especially for the rain fed areas. He discussed on agri-ecotourism and said that hilly areas of Reasi distt. have huge potential in agri-ecotourism. He urged farmers to establish income generating units of dairy farming, Kadaknath farming, mushroom farming, goat and sheep farming, beekeeping etc. so as to open some new avenues of income and employment in the area. He also guided farmers on different agricultural schemes and programmes and urged them to avail the benefits of these schemes and programmes. The farmers asked various quarries regarding the commercial agriculture which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK officials. During the programme, the Sarpanch of the areaTilak Raj was also present. Manohar Lal of KVK, Reasi helped in arranging logistics and mobilising farmers for the training programme. Dr. Banarsi Lal proposed the formal vote of thanks. |
