Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 2: Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday was elected President of J&K Peoples Conference un-opposed. The Election Authority of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference headed by Basharat Bukhari Wednesday declared Lone elected as President of J&K Peoples' Conference un-opposed. The election was aimed at strengthening internal democracy within the party and also adhere to the Election Commission of India guidelines for internal democratic regulation of political parties. Bukhari said in response to the notification announcing the schedule for the election for the post of PC President, the Election Authority received eight nomination sets till the expiry of last date for receiving nominations, all nominating Lone as the candidate for election as President. The nominations were received from Anantnag, Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara, Kupwara, Poonch and Jammu. No nomination was received in favour of any other candidate. The Election Authority, on October 19, announced the schedule for the said election with October 30 as the last date for receiving nomination. Bukhari said the poll as scheduled was not necessitated as only one candidate was in the fray for this election and he stood elected unopposed. "It has been decided that the Electoral College (General Council) comprising 732 members would participate in the oath ceremony of the President elect on November, 10 at Darul Jawad, Qamarwari, where the President will also assume the charge of his new term of office after taking oath of office," Bukhari said. The oath to Lone will be administered by the Chairman of the Election Authority. |
