EWS reservation brings social equality by providing equal opportunities: Ritika Trehan
11/11/2022 10:37:45 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 11: BJP Mahila Morcha J&K Spokesperson Ritika Trehan today hailed Supreme Court upholding the EWS quota, terming decision victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his mission to provide social justice to the country's poor. She said the verdict is yet another victory for Modi in his mission to provide social justice to India's poor. She said it is a slap on the face of the political parties with vested interests that have tried to sow discord among the citizens of the country with their propaganda. She said constitutional validity to 10% quota for EWS will open up new doors of opportunities for the economically weaker sections, especially in admission to HEIs and central govt jobs, further strengthen social justice as well as the spirit of 'Sabka Sath and Sabka Vikas'," Ritika said. "This is a historic judgment. Parliament had unanimously passed the legislation for having 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections. That was challenged in the Supreme Court. The apex court has upheld the amendment, and this is a big step towards achieving economic equality in the country," Ritika said. She also pointed out that the EWS decision was noteworthy because it gave benefits to certain class of people but did not take away benefits from the other. "What the Modi government did was a break from the previous culture of discrimination and divisions where to give something to one group, things were snatched from another group," Ritika said. Handling of the EWS issue shows the "uniqueness of the decision and indicates the Prime Minister's way of approaching things", she said. The BJP pointed out that in the past due to reservation, politically vested interest groups created social fault lines and furthered division in society, with even governments falling over reservation. "The memories of the Mandal Commission agitation are still fresh in the minds of many. Due to caste wars, lives have been lost, there have been ugly massacres and bloodshed," Ritika said. Not a single incident of violence took place when the EWS decision was taken and the harmony continues even today, she said. "This shows Modi government's compassion for the people and its ability to take tough decisions and take them to the logical culmination," Ritika said. She also said the EWS reservation brought in "social equality" by providing "equal opportunities" in higher education and employment to those who have been excluded by virtue of their economic status.
