BIS JKBO organized a 2-Day Mentors’ Training Programme | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 21: BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office successfully organized a Two-Day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs of Govt. Polytechnic Colleges, IIT Jammu, MIET and Kendriya Vidyalayas of Jammu and Kashmir on 20-21 December 2022 at its Branch Office. Sudershan Kumar JKAS, Director, Skill Development, J&K was the Chief Guest. In his Keynote Address, Sudershan Kumar said that standards play pivotal role in economic growth of the country. Standards are needed by Industry, testing labs, regulators and even consumers for building the quality ecosystem of the country. He appreciated the initiative taken by BIS to establish Standards Clubs at different levels of education system with the aim to imbibe the significance of quality and standards in our life. Highlighting the objectives of the program and explaining the BIS activities, Smt. Nisha Bura, Joint Director, BIS-JKBO stated that Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. BIS has established 126 standards clubs. The Mentor acts as the guiding force to get the activities under the standards club in a manner to channelize their creativity and enhancing their scientific temperament. It is therefore imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their roles in quality ecosystem. With this vision, BIS JKBO conducted the training program in which technical Lectures on Overview of BIS Activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, types of standardization and Standards, benefits of standardization, Objectives and Guidelines for Standards Clubs, Role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Smt. Bura. During the Residential Training Program, features of BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activity on Standards Writing on a variety of subjects covering different types. The groups of mentors prepared draft standards on subjects given to them and presented to other groups which were deliberated viz-a-viz published Indian Standards on the subjects. The activity was very much appreciated by the mentors as this helped them understand the structure and technicalities of a standard. |
