National Mathematics Day celebrated at govt GLDM Degree College Hiranagar

JAMMU, Dec 22: Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar under the aegis of Department of Mathematics, sponsored by J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council, DST, J&K organises International Seminar on the occasion of NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAYS (The 135th Birth Anniversary of great Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan).
The Programme started with lightening of the traditional lamp, followed by Sarsvati Vandana. In her inaugural message, Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna welcomes the invited guests and conveyed her best wishes to all faculty members and students on the occasion of National Mathematics Day.
Dr. Ram Krishan (Ex Principal) chief guest of the programme spoke about the life history of Srinivas Ramanujan and his achievements in the field of mathematics. He also stressed upon the students to learn basics tools of mathematics.
Prof. Liliana from Western University of Arad, Romania, presented a technical lecture and awared the audience about the role and applications of fixed point theory. She encouraged the students to understand mathematics and utilization of fixed point theory in other streams.
Dr. Ram Singh from BGSBU, Rajouri talked about Vedic mathematics, Relation of Sanskrit with mathematics, development and applications of Vedic mathematics.
Prof. A.K.Das from SMVDU Katra, spoke on the applications of homeomorphism and motivated the students to develop mathematical approach to understand the concepts.
Dr. Rajesh Sharma HOD Mathematics and convenor of the programme also spoke on the occasion by giving the detailed introduction of the department and awared the students about the role of mathematics in science and technology and contributions of Srinivas Ramanujan in the field of mathematics.
Students from different semesters also participated in various competitions like Quiz, Poster Making and Debate Competition organized by the Department of Mathematics.
During the prize distribution programme, the winners of these competitions were also honoured and awarded by the chief guest.
The occasion was also attended by all the faculty members of the college.
Prof. Praveen Sharma presented Vote of Thanks.
Finally the programme ended with National Anthem.
