12/22/2022 11:04:16 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 22: Army Public School Kaluchak organized Grandiose Chemistry Workshop- ‘Hubs for Learning Chemists’ to introduce Chemistry through the lens of real-world applications. The workshop aimed at developing basic knowledge and understanding of Chemistry at school level with emphasis on providing the conceptual structure of Chemistry to students. The inaugural address was presented by Mrs. Hem Lata Vishen, Principal, APS Kaluchak. She spoke at length about the dire need of developing scientific temperament, rationality, inquisitiveness, open-mindedness, critical thinking and objectivity amongst students.
The workshop equipped the facilitators to reflect upon the changing teaching pedagogies in alignment with NEP 2020 and to incorporate the multidisciplinary nature of Chemistry for a critical interpretation & appreciation of the subject.
The highlights of the workshop were: Mnemonics for learning the entire Periodic table, Ball and stick models to strengthen the concept of atoms and molecules, usage of analogies for understanding Ionic and Covalent bonds, 3 D models for delving deep into the stereochemistry of organic compounds and ‘play and learn cards’ for developing the concept of valency. These complex topics were presented in a lucid manner to enhance its coherence and to bridge the learning gaps among children thus dissipating their fright of the much-dreaded subject-Chemistry.
The workshop saw a collaborative participation of several eminent institutions viz: APS Miran Sahib, APS B D Bari, Jammu Sanskriti School, Stephens International School and Bhargava Public School, Samba. Two teachers (1 TGT & 1 PGT) from each school attended this workshop with great zeal and verve.
Ms. Puja Sharma, Vice Principal, APS Kaluchak and Dr. Mohita Sharma (PGT Chemistry) were the presenters of the session. Mrs. Hem Lata Vishen, Principal, APS Kaluchak lauded the efforts of the facilitators for conducting such a wonderful and fruitful session which fostered sharing of best teaching practices, hands on experience, art and activity-based integration to strengthen the conceptual clarity amongst the 21st century learners.
