Covid Scare Returns
12/22/2022 11:04:57 PM
The sudden spurt in Covid cases in China and other countries have sent alarm bells ringing in India.
The Union Health Minister while chairing an emergency meeting to review the Covid situation on Wednesday had asked people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks in crowded places, and get vaccinated.
“Covid is not over yet. I have directed all concerned to be alert and strengthen surveillance. We are prepared to manage any situation,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a meeting with ministers and top officials to review the Covid situation in India after four cases of the Omicron sub-variant were found in the country.
PM cautioned against any complacency in respect of Covid and directed heightened surveillance especially at international airports for timely detection of newer, more transmissible variants.
As Christmas and New Year are approaching, the government is likely to issue advisories so that enough precautions are taken to prevent the virus from spreading.
Meanwhile, the central government has already started random testing of visitors from abroad at major international airports. The instructions have been passed to set up the infrastructure for quarantine and testing may be re-established in the next seven days.
People across the world have been living with Covid since 2020 and it’s nothing new. They are aware that precaution is better than cure. The new Covid warning has been sounded and the fourth wave could be in offing. So people need to gear up and keep themselves safe so that they are able to fight the new variant which has spread in some countries and there is every possibility about it reaching India too.
The Covid spreading rapidly in some countries is not good news. It can once again disrupt normal life. But there is every possibility about this virus waning off fast as the world during the past three years has equipped itself to fight the virus.
The Covid threat is back but it can be handled and defeated like in the past. Precautions and care are must. We need to be strong and believe that if the fourth Covid wave reaches India it too will pass.
