Hybrid Immunity
12/29/2022 11:14:06 PM

As the fears about fourth wave of COVID-19 breaking out in the country are looming large, the experts are asking people not to worry as India enjoys hybrid immunity because of a combination of widespread natural infection and vaccination.
Experts are of the opinion that the hybrid immunity offers robust and long lasting protection against Covid-19. The new study has revealed that people with hybrid immunity developed by both vaccination and previous infections have significant protection against future Covid infections.
The study has found that a major and durable immune response occurs if a person has been both vaccinated and got infected with the virus.
During the first three waves of COVID-19 maximum population across the country got infected and more than 90% of the Indian population was vaccinated. It means that Indians are having double protection and the BA.7 variant that has triggered the fresh wave of infections in some countries has been present in India since long and it hasn’t been able to cause much damage. People have got infected but the hospitalization rate has been low.
The third Covid wave was caused by omicron and its subvariants which are responsible for Covid-19 cases globally even now. India has been exposed to almost all of them over the last few months. People have been affected. They have fallen sick also but have recovered eventually. The situation in China has led us to activate high level precautions. India is much better placed in fighting the pandemic than China due to several factors. At least 96 per cent children below 12 years in India have been exposed to Covid, which has led to natural immunity. India also has the benefit of people getting two primary doses of vaccines. Many experts are of the opinion that Chinese vaccines which China gave to its people have proven ineffective and that has led to resurgence of Covid in the country. However, Indian vaccines have proven to be effective and have helped people fight Covid better.
Experts and medicos are assuring people that there is nothing to worry but they are also advising the masses to take precautions to prevent the virus from raising its ugly head again. All of us need to remember that precaution is better than cure and there is no room for complacency.
