Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 8: JAMMU, JANUARY 08: To provide better transit facilities to the people and avoid traffic snarls, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Harvinder Singh convened a meeting to redress the issues related to New Bus Stand and E-Rickshaws.
It was decided in the meeting that no bus shall be allowed to halt and board passengers on the road outside the new bus stand. It was instructed that all the buses must strive to board passengers within the modern bus stand where passengers can come and use various public facilities apart from boarding buses in a dignified and safe manner. Directions were passed to the enforcement agencies to ensure implementation of the directions and keep check on wrong parking and halting on the stretch between KC Crossing to Dogra Chowk.Further, he reiterated the directions passed by DC Jammu to JDA engineers to reserve slots for e-rickshaws on selected floors of newly created parking to help people park vehicles and use the facilities to access interior areas of old markets like Raghunath Bazar, etc with ease.
Regarding implementation of policy on licensing, registration and fitness of E-Rickshaws, it was decided that the dealers shall mandatorily provide 10 day training to the prospective E-Rickshaw drivers and share the certificate with RTO Jammu.
On the basis of these certificates, the drivers shall apply and get licenses to drive e-rickshaws in Jammu City.
The ADC instructed the e-rickshaws dealers not to hand over e-rickshaws to applicants without having a valid E-Rickshaw driving licence starting from 20th January, 2023.
Setting the deadlines for the dealers, the ADC also asked them to provide training to the drivers of already sold out E-Rickshaws by or before 31 March.
He further directed the ARTO Jammu to ensure that all the drivers of E-Rickshaws must have valid e-rickshaw driving licence by or before 30th April after completion of 10 day training and 30 day learner license period.
The ADC said that strict action shall be taken against the violators under rule of law.
