Jammu, Jan 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is endevouring for the organic vegetables production in Reasi distt. of J&K. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi scientists are guiding and motivating the farmers for the commercial organic and natural farming. Talwara and adjoining villages such as Kansi Patta and Kans Brahmna of Reasi district of J&K are commercially producing the organic vegetables. Farmers of the area are trained by KVK, Reasi on Jeevamrit preparation, Panchgavya preparation, cow urine preparation, beejamrit preparation, fermented butter milk preparation, vermicomposting technology etc. According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal, organic and natural farming can play a significant role in enhancing the farmers’ income and employment. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) have initiated the special derive on organic farming/natural farming/cow based economy/sustainable agriculture so that the income and employment among the farmers can be enhanced. Organic farming assists to improve the health status of the soil and chemical free vegetables are produced through this type of farming. It is pertinent to mention here that KVK is making strenuous efforts for commercial organic farming for the welfare of mankind by promoting the eco-friendly agriculture to produce the safe food. During the interaction with the farmers, they responded that they are using of Farm Yard Manures (FYM), cow urine, Jeevamrit, vermicompost, fermented butter milk, green manuring etc. for the commercial organic vegetables production. The crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc. in the organic farming are also followed by the farmers. They are applying Panchgavaya, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Fermented Butter Milk, Neem oil etc. for the organic management of insect-pests and diseases. In order to maintain the moisture in their vegetables and keep them weed free, they are using different types of mulching materials. By observing the results of successful organic vegetables growers in the area, many new farmers are showing keen interest towards the cultivation of organic vegetables. |
