Krishi Vigyan Kendra trains farm women on natural farming | | | Early Times Report REASI, Jan 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on natural farming under "Up scaling of Natural Farming" project here today at Karua village in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of women farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The objective of the programme was to train the women farmers on natural farming and educate them on the significance of natural farming. Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the significance of the programme. He said that hilly areas have immense potential in natural farming and the farmers of these areas can develop entrepreneurship in natural farming by commercially producing the safe food through natural farming. He further said that natural farming is the need of the present era as it is beneficial for the maintenance of soil health, human health and environment. He stressed on the cluster based approach required for natural farming and discussed in detail on the transition strategy required in natural farming. He also elaborated the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist said that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He added that natural farming is helpful to reduce the cost of cultivation as there is no need to purchase the agro-inputs required for natural farming from the outside. Adarsh Gupta, DDM NABARD, Reasi spoke on the banking literacy and stressed on the agri-entrepreneurship. He added that women farmers should avail more and more benefits from the agricultural and allied sectors schemes undergoing in the district. He stressed on the value addition in agriculture for more returns. He appreciated the efforts of farm women on the production of oyster mushroom. Raj Kumar, We Care Society stressed on the Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for rural development. KVK scientists demonstrated the techniques on the formulation of natural farming inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, Ghanjeevamrit etc. and also elaborated the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. Progressive Farmer, Gurdev Singh and Smt.Chanchla Devi shared their experiences of farming with the other farmers. Participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered by the scientists in a satisfactorily way. Various key points on natural farming were also discussed during the training programme. Women farmers thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks. |
