Govt creating new avenues | | | The Jammu and Kashmir administration has chalked out a roadmap to revamp wool sector in the Union Territory with the support of Central Wool Development Board (CWDB). Jammu and Kashmir has a distinction of producing high quality, apparel grade wool but its potential is yet to be fully developed. The Central Wool Development Board is expected to provide support in the form of skill training, human resource development, modern machinery besides other technical assistance while the J&K administration has already approved plans and revolving funds for revival of the sector in J&K. After August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divide it into two Union Territories—many sectors in Jammu and Kashmir have been revived. New lease of life has been infused into the sectors that were ignored by the former regimes. During the past three years many changes have taken place and the sectors that were ignored have been reworked upon with an aim to generate employment and make the Union Territory more productive. The infrastructure for establishing the necessary setup for the revival of the wool industry is already in place but the government will be setting up Common Incubation Centers to provide training to individuals in the sector besides establishing Common Facility Centers. Besides wool, many such sectors like dairy farming have been revamped. The dairy sector has emerged as a potential source of additional income for people living in rural areas. Many schemes have been introduced to help and uplift the marginalized farmers. The schemes that have been introduced after 2019 have helped the marginalized population to lift their standards of living and make their lives easy. The government has laid emphasis on providing equal opportunities to all the sections of the society and bring everyone at par. The development story of Jammu and Kashmir includes all the sectors and the administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ensured that the benefits of the centrally sponsored schemes trickle down to the last person in the queue. The government’s plan to revive the wool industry is a welcome step and it’s bound to help the people associated with the sector and create new avenues. |
