Natrang presents new Hindi play ‘Park
2/5/2023 10:29:46 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 5: Natrang presented a new Hindi play ‘Park’ written by Manav Kaul at its Studio. The play was ably directed by Rahul Singh who has been a National Scholarship holder and now a National fellowship holder of Ministry of Culture, Government of India in the field of Theatre. Speaking on the occasion Natrang Director Padmashri Balwant Thakur said that in its consistent effort, Natrang has been endeavouring to showcase new talents through a diverse range of new concepts and scripts. Today’s presentation’Park’ proved to be a shining example of novice experiments of theatre in Jammu. Parsing the playwright Manav Kaul he termed this script as mind blowing which was suitably complimented by the imaginative direction of Rahul Singh. On the occasion Balwant Thakur assured that Natrang is all set to surprise Jammu by yet newer experiments of theatre with more and more thought provoking ventures.
A layered story rooted in metaphor, the park itself is symbolic of a number of things, the shrinking of public spaces being one of them. Three men, all with different backgrounds - one is a recent law school graduate, the other is a school teacher and the third a family man - find some semblance of peace in this spot.
The play ‘Park’ is about three men engaging in what seems like a petty brawl over a park bench. The story unfolds, as the title suggests, in a park, which could be in any Indian city, where life is marked by the continuous jostling for space. Three benches stand in this park, one for each of the three men who enter. They squabble, nevertheless, over one hallowed seat, with each man presenting a back story and an argument. “It starts out as banter and one-upmanship but turns into something very serious that could escalate into violence.
Emerging actors of Natrang who participated in the play ‘Park’ includes Sheryaar Salaria, Sumit Bandaral, Arun Sharma, Amit Brahmi and Aarti Devi.
The lights of the play were executed by Brijesh Avtar Sharma whereas the sound was rendered by Aadesh Dhar. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
