Adolescent females require approximately 2200 calories/day, whereas male adolescents require 2500-3000 calories/day. Additional intake requirements include fat, calcium, iron, zinc, vitamins, and fiber. Adolescence is a significant period for physical growth and sexual maturation. Nutrition being an important determinant of physical growth of adolescents is an important area that needs attention. Growth retardation is one of the most important health concerns for adolescents and their parents as well as health care workers. As we grow older, choosing a diet that can help age gracefully and ward off chronic diseases can feel important. Inadequate nutritional intake can have serious consequences. Poor nutrition can impair the work capacity. |
