JU organizes FDP on Development of Leadership Skills

JAMMU, Feb 20: Department of Home Science in collaboration with Human Development Resource Centre. University of Jammu organizes a five days FDP on Development of Leadership Skills among Future Academic Leaders (20th-24th of February 2023). Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, was the Chief guest for the inaugural function. In his inaugural lecture, he discussed NEP 2020 and the role of Institutions of Higher Learning. He was of the view that with the changing times and the adoption of NEP 2020, the role and responsibilities of the teachers are changing. They must take leadership roles as academicians for their own and for the student's overall development. In his lecture, he highlighted various courses, credit system of Higher Education to be implemented and discussed UGC regulations related to awarding UG, PG degree, diploma courses and scope,application of these courses. He stated that focus of NEP 2020 is 'to explore and strengthen the academic potential of the students'.
Earlier, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Course Coordinator, welcomed the Guests and Participants and introduced the need for organizing this FDP. She said that the needs of the leader and the leadership is to bring about proficiency in not just knowledge but also to develop the future leaders. To improve the global rankings of the institutions the skills that are required are critical and creative thinking, leadership readiness, communication skills, problem solving skills, basically the Life Skills Education, which are the practical needs of a leader. Continuous and qualitative progress of knowledge and skills is the key to educational leadership.
Prof Sandeep Pandita, Director UGC HRDC welcomed the participants and highlighted the need for FDPs in this ever changing scenario of the society and work, and the demand it puts on the building of good institutions with global rankings.
Prof Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science, in her address focused on the need for leadership skills among faculty. She stressed that for institutions to truly thrive in current higher education landscape, faculty members are indeed the change agents. The ultimate benefit is that institutions will be better prepared for the challenges of 21st century in higher education. She added that such FDP's shall create Good and Smart People i.e. inculcating Value and Skills among future academic leaders.
