Namrta flays Admin over poor traffic scenario in Jammu City | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 20: Commuters in the City of Temples are worried as faulty traffic signals at several intersections pose a great threat of accidents. The absence of traffic police at the intersections where signals are not functional adds to the problem, especially in the view of decreasing visibility in the early hours due to fog. This was observed by Namrta Sharma, President Women wing Aam Aadmi Party, Jammu and Kashmir while issuing a statement here today. The senior AAP leader observed that at several intersections, traffic signals are often out of order and many of the lights are non- functional besides at some junctions timers are not working. At several crossings, many a times, the timers are not working and it creates a very awkward situation and sometimes, the confusion among vehicle owners’ results in mishaps. She asserted that travelling on city roads has become more of a time- and energy-consuming experience. At few places, a commuter has to spend twenty minutes to complete the distance of five kilometers which otherwise is just five to seven minutes drive normally. Namrta Sharma said that the present dispensation has spent crore of rupees to streamline the growing traffic scenario but all in vain. “The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report had also attributed the condition of traffic lights to the hastiness of Jammu administration because of which traffic lights were installed without properly assessing the site, traffic, and requirement of junctions,” she said, adding that traffic jams have become a routine affair and no efforts are being made to regulate vehicular movement. The senior AAP leader appealed to the Lt Governor to look into the matter and give necessary directions to the authorities concerned to rectify the issues of traffic lights so that the poor traffic scenario of Jammu city would be streamlined. |
