Seven day NSS camp culminated at MIER College | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 1: NSS unit of MIER College of Education, organized seven days special NSS camp from February 15-23, 2023, with the aim of sensitizing NSS volunteers. The theme of the camp was "Environment, including the preservation of natural resources and conservation of cultural and historical heritage". The camp was held under the guidance of principal, Dr. Adit Gupta and Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, NSS Programme Officer. Around fifty volunteers from the different departments of the College participated in the camp. A thorough effort was made to develop the personality of the volunteers through community service. The volunteers were made aware of the objectives of NSS and the purpose behind organizing the camp. A number of activities were held during the camp, such as a lecture on values and work ethics and an orientation on the "Ladli Beti Scheme" for the slum dwellers of Kabir Basti. They also visited Akhnoor Fort and ran an environmental awareness campaign in Akhnoor about the harmful effects of the use of polythene bags and upkeep of the Chenab River. The volunteers visited an old age home in Amphala which helped to develop social and human values among them. Various sports and cultural activities were also undertaken. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function whereas Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson, MIER Group of Institutions, was the Guest of Honour. The volunteers presented a vibrant cultural programme that included a NSS song, skit on the theme of "Women Empowerment", video presentation on camp activities, and group folk dances such as Dogri, Ladakhi, and Punjabi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gandotra, appreciated the efforts of the volunteers in organizing different social activities and exhorted the volunteers to abide by the motto of NSS "Not Me, But You." The NSS volunteer places "community before self" as a philosophy of life. As an NSS volunteer, one imbibes different values, appreciates the dignity of labor, and works towards giving back to the community. She also added that without the active involvement of youth society cannot flourish and such camps are helpful in overall development. In her address, Dr. Renu Gupta said that the NSS Unit of MIER College is one of the oldest units and has always been vibrant and active. She appreciated the zeal of the volunteers for social service and encouraged them to develop a passion for community service. She appreciated the efforts of the NSS unit for instilling a sense of community service and the importance of Shramdaan in the youth. HoDs of UG and PG departments of the College also congratulated the NSS volunteers on the successful completion of the camp. NSS volunteers, Muskan Adlakha and Muskan Gupta conducted the valedictory function, and a formal vote of thanks was presented by Khushi Sharma. |
