GLDM Degree College organizes poster making competition | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 1: Department of Environmental sciences and Zoology of GDC GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organizes a poster making competition on "Clean Water And Sanitation", the activity was the part of the scheduled activities to be conducted in connection with G20 summit under the theme "One Earth, One Planet, One Future.” Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is the most basic human need for health and well-being. Billions of people will lack access to these basic services in 2030 unless progress quadruples. Demand for water is rising owing to rapid population growth, urbanization and increasing water needs from agriculture, industry, and energy sectors and keeping in view the current scenario of people suffering from diseases related to clean water and sanitation the students of various semesters presented their views in a very effected way through the posters. The best three posters were of Rawani Jasrotia begged first position, Priya Sharma secured second position, Radha rani and Sia kumari shared third position. The judges of the competition were Dr. jyoti rani, Prof Kiran thapa, Prof. Ritika. The event was organized under the able guidance of worthy Principal, Dr. Pragya Khanna. In her address she appealed the students to participate more in such kind of activites so as to aware themselves and others with the important issues related to sustainable development and also other big challenges in today's world: poverty, hunger, inequality and climate change are just some of the issues we all need to address urgently. Prof Neha Bhagat, HOD EVS in her address focused on the facts that one in three people live without sanitation. This is causing unnecessary disease and death. Although huge strides have been made with access to clean drinking water, lack of sanitation is undermining these advances. If we provide affordable equipment and education in hygiene practices, we can stop this senseless suffering and loss of life. Vote of thanks was given by Prof Manjot Singh, Assistant Prof. Zoology, he also congratulated the students for the efforts they put in making the event successful.
