Jammu, Mar 10: Suhaib Salman, a lawyer based out of Jammu represented India at the Global Peace Summit, Kenya, 2023. He was selected as the only fully funded Indian Delegate selected from India. The summit brought together agents of peace from across the world that led to the participation for three days. The event took place at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, from Feb 9-12, 2023. Over 400 people from 74 nations attended. The summit aimed at building communities that can tackle complex challenges by appreciating different cultures and forging relations with people from different cultural backgrounds that are working on the SDG 4, 13, and 16. Suhaib also shared his vision for peace that was taught by his grandfather and as a panelist talked on the relationship of SDG 13 and SDG 16. He raised awareness on the importance of climate action that is required to overcome the greenwashing and greenrinsing propagated by the companies. Kamran Zafar, the founder of Global Peace Chain felicitated him with a medal and exchanged his journey of building peace at the Global level. The summit was graced by dignitaries, including Charlene Ruto, the first daughter of President Ruto of Kenya, Permanent Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage, Hon. John Ololtua, Miss Tourism Noni Kariuki, and the CEO of Kenya Tourism Board, Hon. John Chirchir, among others. Peninah Malonza, cabinet secretary for Kenya’s ministry of tourism, emphasized the need for peacebuilders to create spaces of mutuality and cultural diversity to combat violence. |
