KVK, Reasi organizes Awareness Programme on Natural Farming

Jammu, Mar 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness programme on natural farming under “Up scaling of natural farming through KVKs” project here today at KVK, Reasi campus which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The programme was organised to create awareness among the farmers on natural farming and educate them on the various practices required for natural farming. Sr.Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal while welcoming the participants said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers of the area can generate more income and employment by producing the safe food through natural farming. He added that natural farming is the need of the era and informed that natural farming is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He emphasised on the cluster based approach for the adoption of natural farming. He expressed that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He elaborated the four pillars of natural farming and stressed on the adoption of zero budget natural farming.
He highlighted the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist spoke on the significance of natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, healthy food is required and natural farming can play an important role for the production of healthy food.
He added that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. Dr.Lobzang Stanzen Scientist discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. He also guided the participants on the preparation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya etc. He highlighted the importance of weather based advisories for the farmers. Dr.Arvinder Kumar guided participants on the preparation of organic seeds required for natural farming and educated them on the efficient farm management practices. Participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientists. Various key points on natural farming were also discussed during the training programme. Farmers thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was concluded by Ms.Preeti Chaudhary with the formal vote of thanks.
