Assessing ground situation
4/23/2023 10:51:52 PM

Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including Bharatiya Janata Party, are trying to assess the ground situation in the Union Territory by trying different ways.
These parties are aware of the fact that sooner or later assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir and whenever the polls are announced they should be ready.
According to media reports a survey is being conducted by an unknown agency through telephone over the future of the BJP in J&K.
The agency through the telephone is conducting a survey of the performance of ex-legislators of BJP and some of them who had served as ministers in the previous PDP-BJP coalition regime in the erstwhile state of J&K.
The survey is aimed at helping the party high command to decide about the politicians, who should be given a mandate to contest the elections.
On the other hand parties like National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Democratic Azad Progressive Party, Apni Party, Peoples Conference and others are holding meetings with the party workers to ascertain the pulse of the people.
After the abrogation of Article 370, things have changed on the ground in J&K. Political equations have tilted. The Politicians, who used to call shots till 2019, are struggling to make a comeback.
At present no political party can claim that it can easily come into power. After August 5, 2019, when the Article 370 was scrapped and J&K was bifurcated into two Union Territories, the Centre has put in all the efforts to fill in the void between the people and the government.
As of date many development projects have been undertaken by the present regime and the projects that were incomplete stand completed. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are directly monitoring the development process in Jammu and Kashmir.
Political parties will have to go to the people with a specific agenda. They can no more promise the moon and stars to the people. Politicians will have to convince the people that if they come into power they would strive for making their lives easy rather than working for their own interests.
For the time being it appears that assembly elections in J&K would be held along with the Parliamentary polls in 2024. Till then political parties have ample time to get ready for the challenge.
