Capacity building programme on Fish Nutrition, Feed Formulation held at SKUAST

JAMMU, May 18: A 2-day capacity building training programme on "Aquapreneurship Development in Fish Nutrition and Feed Formulation for Effective Self-employment of Youth" was held at the main campus of SKUAST-Jammu on 15th and 16th May, 2023. The programme was organized by the Division of Fisheries for students from the Department of Industrial Fish and Fisheries, Govt. Degree College (Boys), Kathua, under a DST sanctioned research project.
Prof. R.K. Samnotra, Director of Research at SKUAST-Jammu, attended the event as the Chief Guest and commended the efforts of Dr. Akhil Gupta, the Principal Investigator of the Project, for establishing various laboratories and organizing the training programme for the youth of the region. He emphasized the importance of high-quality fish seed and nutritionally balanced feed for the growth of aquaculture in the area.
Prof. S.K. Gupta, Registrar SKUAST-Jammu and Dean Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry, discussed the vision of the Indian government to strengthen the fisheries sector and the allocation of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for the benefit of fish farmers and youth. Prof. B.C. Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agricultural and Principal Investigator IDP-NAHEP, shared national success stories in the field and encouraged the students to become success stories of J&K through the adoption of advanced techniques in fish nutrition and feed technology.
Dr. Akhil Gupta, the PI-DST Project, welcomed the Chief Guest and participants and provided an overview of the project's ongoing activities. The event was attended by university dignitaries, including Dr. Sahar Masud (Head, Division of Fisheries), Dr. Vijay Bharti (Professor Agronomy), Dr. Prem Kumar (Scientist, KVK, R.S. Pura), Dr. Balbir Dhotra (Associate Professor, OFRC), and others. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Akhil Gupta, expressing gratitude to all involved in making the programme a success.
