Congress launches campaign for Panchayat elections on Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary

Jammu, May 21: Congress pays rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 32nd martyrdom day and launches its campaign for the upcoming PRI elections in the UT. Rajiv Gandhi is hailed as the architect of Panchayat Raj in the country.
The event, held at Mahajan Hall on Shalamar Road in Jammu, witnessed the presence of hundreds of representatives from Panchayats, Urban Bodies, and senior leaders of the party. The function was chaired by President JKPCC, Shri Vikar Rasool Wani, and attended by prominent leaders such as Working President Shri Raman Bhalla, Former Dy C.M. Shri Tara Chand, Former PCC President Shri Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, and other esteemed individuals.
In his address, PCC Chief Vikar Rasool Wani highlighted the contributions of Shri Rajiv Gandhi, emphasizing his role as the youngest Prime Minister who envisioned the challenges of the 21st century and spearheaded the IT and Telecom revolution.
Wani praised Rajiv Gandhi as the driving force behind the Panchayat Raj system, which granted constitutional status, powers, and reservations to women, SCs, and STs across all three tiers of the system, empowering grassroots-level governance.
The event marked the beginning of Congress’ campaign for the upcoming Panchayat elections, as a tribute to the visionary leadership and progressive initiatives of Rajiv Gandhi.
