JAMMU, May 23: The Inter-Division UT Level sports competition for under 19 boys and girls in 10 disciplines commenced today at M.A. Stadium. The Joint Director of Youth Services & Sports Jammu, Suram Chand Sharma, inaugurated the event and emphasized the importance of sports in youth development.
The competition includes Kabaddi, Chess, Yoga, Handball, Basketball, Kho-Kho, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Weightlifting, and Shooting. Participants from all 20 districts of the UT are vying for victory, with the winners earning the opportunity to represent their division in the National Games organized by the School Games Federation of India in New Delhi from June 5, 2023.
Suram Chand Sharma congratulated the selected sports persons and urged them to inspire others to participate in sports, redirecting their energy towards positive pursuits and away from social issues like drug abuse. He encouraged the players to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and set high standards during the matches. |
