Early Times Report JAMMU, May 28: Head of Department Cardiology, GMCH Jammu, Dr. Sushil Sharma, in collaboration with SVS Charitable Trust, conducted a cardiac awareness cum health checkup camp in Rajouri to educate the public about the significance of religion and spirituality in preventing heart diseases. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Shri 1008 Swami Vishwatamanand Ji Maharaj, accompanied by Dr. Sushil Sharma and Vibodh Gupta, amidst vedic invocations for universal peace and well-being. Over 2000 individuals availed the health checkup services, including ECG, Lipid-profile, BMD, and Blood sugar tests. Free medicines were distributed as per medical advice. Dr. Sushil Sharma highlighted the positive impact of religiosity on general health and mortality rates. Studies have shown that regular engagement in religious activities can lead to lower rates of smoking and reduced all-cause mortality. Religiosity offers stress relief, encourages healthy lifestyles, and fosters social support, thereby improving overall well-being. Dr. Sushil Sharma emphasized the importance of integrating spirituality and religion into comprehensive patient care, as they provide purpose, community, and motivation for positive lifestyle changes. The camp also served as an occasion to pay tribute to the late Dr. Shalinder Sharma, who was recognized for his professional excellence and social services in the Pir Panjal valley. Dr. Sushil Sharma acknowledged his invaluable contributions and mourned his irreplaceable loss to the region. The successful event involved the dedicated participation of medical professionals, including Dr. Vidushi Badyal, Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Dr. Poonam Jagiasi, and many others.
