Death sentence for Yasin Malik | | | The National Investigation Agency approaching the Delhi High Court to seek death penalty for JKLF chairman Yasin Malik has divided the political leadership in Jammu and Kashmir. Peoples Democratic Party has called Malik a “political prisoner,” while Apni Party has stated that deterrent measures should be taken against those who are trying to threaten national security. The BJP has welcomed the NIA’s move and the Peoples Conference has described the plea of the country’s premiere investigating agency as “dangerous.” Malik is serving life imprisonment in connection with the terror funding case in which he pleaded guilty. There are many other cases which are pending against him. Whether the court would entertain NIA’s plea to consider the death sentence for Malik or not remains to be seen but one thing is clear that the security forces and the investigating agencies have launched a decisive war against terrorists and their supporters in Jammu and Kashmir. The message is clear to one and all that there are no escape routes and the people like Malik, who have indulged in anti-national activities and have killed innocents, won’t be spared. Pertinently, when Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister of the country in 2014, he had driven home a point that terrorism won’t be tolerated and anti-nationals will be punished. During the past nine years he has given a free hand to the investigating agencies to act tough against the stooges of Pakistan active in J&K. Battle against terrorists and their supporters gained momentum in Jammu and Kashmir after August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to scrap J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories. Since then there has been no looking back. Handful of separatists, who used to take J&K hostage have been cut to size and put behind the bars. They have been held accountable for their crimes against the people. Yasin Malik is no exception. He was involved in multiple killings of security forces jawans including the Air Force personnel, members of minority community in Kashmir, sending Kashmiri youth for terrorist training to Pakistan and arranging the funding for terrorist strikes in India. Terming him as a “political prisoner” or NIA’s plea as “dangerous” are excuses to shield a terrorist, who has acted as stooge of enemies all his life. |
