BBIA expresses concern over mass transfer of Doctors from ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 29: An urgent meeting of the Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) was held today under the chairmanship of Lalit Mahajan, President of BBIA. The meeting was attended by Tarun Singla, Sr. Vice President, Ajay Langer, Vice President, Viraaj Malhotra, General Secretary, Rajesh Jain, Secretary, Vivek Singhal, Treasurer of BBIA, and other members. During the meeting, serious concerns were raised regarding the mass transfer of doctors from the ESI Model Hospital Bari Brahmana. The transfer order was issued on 20-05-2023 by the ESIC Headquarter in New Delhi, affecting 06 specialists and 13 medical officers. This transfer could lead to the complete collapse of healthcare facilities available to ESI registered workers and staff at ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana. Currently, the medical and paramedical staff strength is approximately 70% of the total sanctioned posts for the 50-bedded hospital. It is surprising to note that specialists with the required qualifications are being posted as medical officers in ESI dispensaries, which is a clear violation of ESI Corporation guidelines stating that the services of medical officers with the requisite qualifications should be for working in ESIC hospitals. It is worth mentioning that the present registered IPs with ESIC are expected to increase significantly due to the massive industrial investments planned under the New Central Sector Scheme 2021 of the Government of India. The proposal for the upgradation of ESI Hospital from 50-bedded to 100-bedded has already been approved by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment. Any reduction in the staff strength at ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana could lead to widespread agitation by industrial workers in the future, as they rely on ESIC for medical services for which they contribute their hard-earned money. The ESIC Model Hospital Bari Brahmana is the only hospital in J&K that caters to the medical care services of ESIC insured persons across the entire Union Territory. Insured persons already travel from far-flung areas and difficult terrains, approximately 300-400 kms away, to avail themselves of the hospital's services. The recent mass transfer of six specialists out of a total of seven and thirteen medical officers, including senior/post-graduate medical officers and one Ayush medical officer, has created apprehensions and uneasiness among the insured persons and stakeholders. There is a genuine concern regarding patient care and access to essential services. BBIA respectfully requests the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha, and Rehana Batul IAS, Commissioner/Secretary, Labour and Employment, for immediate intervention. BBIA urges the posting of the required medical and paramedical staff at ESI Model Hospital and requests to keep the order for the mass transfer of doctors from ESI Hospital Bari Brahmana on hold until further notice. |
