Early Times Report JAMMU, May 29: The Department of Chemistry at Government Degree College Kathua organized a poster making competition on the theme of "Chemistry in Sustainable Development." The event was inaugurated by Prof. Seema Mir, Principal of GDC Kathua, in the presence of Prof. Rakesh Singh, Head of the Department of Chemistry, and several other faculty members. During the inauguration, Prof. Seema Mir emphasized the importance of such events for students and encouraged them to take a keen interest in the field of chemistry. She congratulated the organizing team for successfully organizing the event and urged students to actively participate. Prof. Rakesh Singh, the event's convener, highlighted the role of chemistry in various fields, particularly in the context of interdisciplinary education as emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He discussed the different applications of chemistry in sustainable development and shed light on the everyday chemical products we use. The competition saw the participation of over 16 students, who presented their posters. A jury panel comprising Dr. Deepshikha, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Dr. Surya Partap, Head of the Department of Zoology, and Prof. Neha Mahajan, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, evaluated the posters. The first position was shared by Rakshit and Arpan, students of Semester II, while Lakshmi and Nancy (semester II) secured the second and third positions, respectively. Palvi Manhas, a student of Semester II, received a consolation prize. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Anupama Arora, Associate Professor in Chemistry. The entire competition was organized under the guidance of Prof. Seema Mir, Principal of GDC Kathua, and with the collective efforts of Prof. Rakesh Singh, Head of the Department of Chemistry, and the organizing team. Other notable individuals present at the occasion included Dr. Kamaldeep and Dr. Shamsher Singh. |
