Tawi Trekkers J&K announces Mount Everest expedition in 2025
5/29/2023 10:28:51 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 29: In a significant development, Tawi Trekkers J&K, the esteemed trekking organization, has unveiled its most ambitious endeavor to date-a mountaineering expedition to Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. This prestigious expedition, scheduled for 2025, marks a historic milestone for the organization, which has been at the forefront of trekking in J&K for the past 40 years. The decision was made during a meeting led by Prof. Lalit Magotra, a founding member and advisor of the club, who also presided over the celebration of International Everest Day.
Prominent members of the core committee in attendance included Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and club patron, Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, President of the Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria, President of Tawi Trekkers J&K, and veteran members Sumit Khajuria and Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu.
To ensure the meticulous selection of mountaineers, Sumit Khajuria, a highly skilled mountaineer and esteemed club member, has been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing four pre-Everest expeditions in 2023 and 2024. He will also oversee all necessary arrangements for the successful execution of the expedition.
It is noteworthy that while Jammu boasts the distinction of producing eleven Everesters, including the accomplished Col. Ranveer Singh Jamwal, who has conquered Everest thrice and summited the highest peaks of all continents, Tawi Trekkers J&K has not previously organized a major mountaineering expedition due to the considerable costs involved.
In a generous gesture, Ram Khajuria, a founding member of Tawi Trekkers J&K and the current President, has contributed Rs. One Lakh towards the initial preparations for the expedition. The estimated total cost of the expedition stands at approximately Rs. 65 lakhs.
