| Reasi district leads in sericulture sector with successful cocoon auction market | | |  Early Times Report
REASI, May 29: Reasi District has emerged as a prominent hub for the promotion of sericulture, with a growing number of people entering the trade and witnessing remarkable sales in the market, stated Manzoor Ahmed Qadiri, Director General of Sericulture, during a virtual address to farmers on the concluding day of the three-day Cocoon Auction Market at Gran Morh.
According to the Sericulture Department, 455 growers from the district sold 15.4 Metric Tons of green cocoons, amounting to a value of Rs 36.65 lakh. This exceptional achievement sets a new record and instills hope among the growers, anticipating a revolution in the sericulture sector in the coming days.
The cocoons were purchased by eight firms and buyers from J&K and other states through the auction market.
The Cocoon Auction Market was organized by the Sericulture Development Department of the J&K Government to facilitate cocoon growers and further promote the sector in the district.
The Director General of the Sericulture Development Department commended the efforts of Additional Director Sericulture Jammu, A.K Sharma, and District Sericulture Officer Reasi, Sushma Gautam, for their dedicated endeavors in realizing this significant event, which aimed to provide much-needed support to the cocoon growers in the district. |
