Power Minister reviews progress of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project | | | agencies NEW DELHI, May 31: Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister, R. K. Singh, conducted a meeting in New Delhi to assess the advancement of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (2000 Mega Watts) in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam, which is being executed by NHPC Ltd. During the meeting, the Power Minister examined the construction progress and safety measures related to the project, particularly in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The Project Head provided updates on the current status of various work packages and highlighted the safety considerations and preparedness in accordance with technical standards for the approaching monsoon months. The project has achieved significant milestones in dam concreting, with 14 blocks reaching the top level of 210 meters and the remaining 2 blocks set to be completed by June 2023. Concrete pouring of over 2.5 lakhs cubic meters has raised the dam height by 37 meters in the past six months, showcasing remarkable progress. Additionally, the river-facing wall of the Power House has been raised to a safe elevation of 116 meters, and the Tail Race Channel has been completed for all units. The Water Conductor System is nearing completion. Following the review, the Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and instructed NHPC to proceed with necessary safety precautions. The CMD of NHPC assured that the company is making efforts to commission the first unit with a capacity of 250 MW in December or January 2024.
