Early Times Report KATHUA, June 2: A Walkathon was organized at Government Degree College for Women, Kathua, on June 2, 2023, to celebrate World Bicycle Day. The event was coordinated by the NSS, RRC, NCC units, and Sports Department of the college, under the patronage of Dr. Savi Behl, the esteemed Principal. The Walkathon commenced with the flagging off by Dr. Savi Behl, who expressed her appreciation for the efforts of Dr. Arun Dev Singh, the NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Vaishno Devi, the ANO of NCC, and Roshan Lal Sharma, the PTI, in organizing the event. She commended the participation and enthusiasm displayed by all the NSS and RRC volunteers, NCC cadets, and sports students. Dr. Behl encouraged the participants, emphasizing the numerous health benefits of walking, including stress reduction, improved physical fitness, and the development of a positive atmosphere among the community. She also highlighted the importance of cycling for environmental conservation and creating a pollution-free society. Dr. Arun Dev Singh addressed the gathering, motivating the volunteers, NCC cadets, and sports students to spread awareness about the benefits of cycling and walking. He emphasized the role of these activities in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and greenhouse gases. Dr. Singh urged the participants to guide children and the general public in adopting cycling as a means of improving health and lifestyle. Dr. Vaishno Devi also delivered a speech, providing guidance to the NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and sports students.
