JAMMU, June 6: The Department of Chemistry at Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, took a proactive approach in promoting environmental awareness by organizing a captivating poster making competition on the occasion of World Environment Day 2023. The event, held on June 1st, 2023, under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma, was successfully coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Anita Brar, a highly respected professor in the Department of Chemistry at GCET, Jammu, who played a pivotal role in organizing the event.
The poster making competition aimed to engage students in creative expressions related to environmental issues and their potential solutions. It provided a platform for young minds to showcase their talent and raise awareness about the significance of protecting the environment.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from numerous students, each presenting their unique perspectives through visually appealing posters. Dr. Rajinder Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, efficiently served as the organizing secretary, ensuring the smooth functioning of the competition. The valuable assistance of Dr. Raman Gupta, Senior Assistant Professor, and Dr. Neerupama, Assistant Professor, in the Department of Chemistry, greatly contributed to the success of the event. The logistic arrangements were skillfully managed by the department's staff members, namely Er. Jaswinder Singh,. Sudershan Sharma, and Mr. Kewal Kumar.
During the event, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Brar delivered an insightful address, shedding light on various environmental issues and discussing potential remedies to mitigate them. Her inspiring talk encouraged the participants to embrace the competition's theme, "Avoid the Use of Plastics and Its Ill Effects on the Environment," with utmost significance.
The highlight of the event was the prize distribution ceremony, where exceptional creativity and talent displayed by the student participants were duly recognized.. Tavishi Sharma, Taniya Rajput, and Sabira Feroz from the 2nd Semester, Electronics and Communication Department, secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively. The winners were awarded trophies to commemorate their outstanding achievements, while all participants received certificates acknowledging their talent.
