PIL seeks rehabilitation of Saddal village inhabitants | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 12: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed by the displaced inhabitants of Saddal village in Tehsil Mongri of Udhampur district, which was severely affected by a landslide in 2014. The PIL highlights the failure of the respondents to take necessary steps for the rehabilitation of the affected families over the past five years. The Division Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh, consisting of Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Mokhsa Khajuria Kazmi, directed the respondents to file an affidavit explaining why no land has been allotted to the affected individuals mentioned in the application and why land has been allotted to other persons who were not affected. The order was passed after hearing Advocate Deepika Mahajan for the PIL and Senior Additional Advocate General SS Nanda for the Union Territory. It was revealed during the hearing that certain families from Saddal village were affected and displaced by the landslide in 2014. Out of these families, only 27 were allotted land, while the remaining families mentioned in the application were not given any land. Surprisingly, seven other families who were not affected by the landslide were allotted land in their names. The Division Bench found these circumstances significant and required the respondents to provide an affidavit clarifying the reasons behind the uneven distribution of land. This directive aims to address the concerns raised in the PIL regarding the rehabilitation of the affected inhabitants of Saddal village. |
