Early Times Report
Jammu, June 13: The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has rejected the bail application of Nano Devi, who is accused of killing her husband, Sohan Lal. According to the prosecution, the case arose when Sohan Lal went missing on June 1, 2021. Sanjay Kumar, the brother of the deceased, filed a complaint stating that Radha Krishna informed him that one of the accused, Kewal Kumar, had killed his brother. The police subsequently arrested Kewal Kumar, who confessed to the crime and implicated other accused, including Nano Devi, Ramesh Chander, and Kamlesh Singh, in a conspiracy to murder Sohan Lal. The prosecution alleges that Nano Devi and Ramesh Chander planned the murder due to their illicit relationship, and they provided poison to Kamlesh Singh and Kewal Kumar, who administered it to the deceased by mixing it with alcohol. They then tied his body and threw it into a gorge. Justice MA Chowdhary, after hearing the arguments, observed that this was not a case of a spontaneous murder but a premeditated plan executed by the applicant and three others. The court deemed it a cold-blooded murder, with Nano Devi being the mastermind. Since the case relies on circumstantial evidence, granting bail to the applicant at this stage could potentially result in tampering with the prosecution’s evidence and influencing witnesses. The court concluded that it was necessary for the prosecution witnesses to be examined before considering the bail application again in the trial court. Therefore, the bail application was dismissed as lacking merit and substance. |
