Jammu, June 13: Humanity Public School, located in Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, recently organized a one-day Handicraft Exhibition in collaboration with Shilpkari Bazaar, a unit dedicated to promoting the “Be Vocal for Local” initiative. The event aimed to support local artists and the manufacturing of indigenous arts and goods not only at a national level but also on a global scale. India is blessed with abundant natural wealth in the form of forests, flora, and fauna, and utilizing these resources judiciously can contribute to self-sufficiency and uplift the nation’s economic standards. Shilpkari Bazaar, a startup based in Jammu, focuses on innovation, revival, and sustenance of handicrafts and handlooms from the region. Renowned artists Mrs. Sanchaita Pradhan and Mr. Arnab Khajuria displayed a range of unique and exclusively designed products during the exhibition. These products included canned planters, flower vases, jewelry, and lamp shades that showcased Jammu’s rich heritage through Basholi painting. The artists encouraged the school staff and parents to share their purchases on social media and spread awareness about promoting handicraft products. The school staff and parents actively participated in the exhibition, showing enthusiasm in purchasing various handicraft items. The school’s principal, Mr. Gaurav Charak, urged the staff and parents to buy more local products, emphasizing their eco-friendliness and non-toxicity to the environment. He also highlighted how art plays a crucial role in familiarizing the younger generation with local traditions and culture. Additionally, these small-scale industries contribute to employment generation in the region. Anku Charak, the Vice-Principal of the school, supervised the exhibition and emphasized the importance of purchasing local products, not just during festive seasons but throughout the year. She emphasized that buying local goods illuminates the lives of many artisans, weavers, and individuals involved in these small-scale industries. Charak expressed confidence that the Handicraft Exhibition, which began as a platform to promote the “Be Vocal For Local” initiative, will continue to grow stronger over time. |
