Early Times Report SAMBA, June 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba, in collaboration with ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, organized a program on front line demonstrations of pearl millet at Panchayat Samlah. The event was attended by over a hundred farmers from the village. Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the activities of KVK Samba. He highlighted the importance of including millet crops such as pearl millet, kodo millet, finger millet, and foxtail millet in our daily diet, emphasizing their role in maintaining soil health and fertility. He also discussed the advantages of growing millet crops in the kandi region of Samba district, particularly in rainfed areas. Dr. Khajuria informed the farming community about the health benefits of millet crops and their increasing demand, especially considering the celebration of 2023 as the "International Year of Millets" by the Government of India. During the program, Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist (Ag. Engg.), highlighted the advantages of mechanization in farming practices. Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist (Entomology), delivered an expert lecture on the importance of millets in our daily diet and various insect and pest management techniques for millet crops. Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Scientist (Animal Sciences), encouraged the farmers to adopt millet farming. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Shalini. |
